The TELER method of clinical note making and outcome measurement for health and social services
TELER
TELER helps health and other professionals to deliver treatment and care of the highest possible quality by providing them with the data needed to obtain job-satisfaction, to develop
a framework for logical reasoning and continuing professional development, and to achieve a high level of legal protection. These outcomes are achieved by the effects of two key
properties of TELER, described below.
TELER is the acronym for treatment evaluation by the Le Roux method. The method was developed to measure the outcome of treatment and care for individual clients, and ensures that an outcome
for a particular client is both valid and clinically significant, and when certain criteria are met, also statistically significant. The method is now also used for other purposes, listed in
the Products and Services page.
The intellectual property rights of the Le Roux method are owned by TELER Limited, and are traded under the European Union trademark 'TELER'.
Experiences with, and opinions about TELER expressed by users of the method, and others, can be found in the documents listed in the References page.
The concepts on which TELER is based, the TELER copyright, and an overview of the TELER method are given in the TELER page
A licence is needed to use any TELER product, and is obtained by registering as a TELER user. Information about registration is given in the Licence page.

Key properties of TELER
TELER is more sensitive to clinical change than other methods, and when used to plan and monitor the delivery of treatment to a patient,
TELER has two important advantages over those methods. It provides the clinician with a level of legal protection unattainable with other methods of measurement,
and it enables the clinician to deliver the treatment with an greater efficiency than is possible with those methods.
TELER provides accurate measurements for each individual in a group, and does so by minimising the bias and error of unknown size always present in every measurement.
Bias is minimised by tracing change, and error is minimised by using the TELER indicator as the measuring scale. Methods of measurement using measuring scales other than the TELER
indicator are unable to provide accurate measurements for each individual in a group, but are able to provide accurate measurements for the group as a whole. With these methods
error is minimised by averaging the measurements for the individuals in a group, and bias is minimised by subtraction. An average has the advantage of being an accurate measurement,
and the disadvantage of being a measurement of limited usefulness. The usefulness of an average is limited by its nature, which ensures that the average relates to no individual
in particular, and to a particular individual coincidentally.
